چکیده

This paper describes the WaterWiSe@SG WSNbased system that is deployed within an operating water distribution network in Singapore. The system enables continuous monitoring of hydraulic parameters in the water distribution network and provides a real-life hydraulic testbed on which to perform field experiments. To date we have deployed 8 sensor nodes over a section of downtown Singapore, sampling pressure (and optionally acoustics and flow) at 2kHz to enable fine grained event detection analysis. The system integrates with an on-line hydraulic calibration system, which estimates and predicts the hydraulic state of the water distribution system. Our application-led approach to the design and implementation of WaterWiSe@SG has led to a reliable, visible and most importantly, usable system that has been deployed continuously for fourteen months as of June 2010.

Waterwise@sg: a Testbed for Continuous Monitoring of the Water Distribution System in Singapore

This paper describes the development of WaterWiSe@SG, a wireless sensor network to enable real-time monitoring of a water distribution network in Singapore. The overall project is directed towards three main goals: 1) the application of a low cost wireless sensor network for high data rate, on-line monitoring of hydraulic parameters within a large urban water distribution system; 2) the develop...

Sensor Networks for Monitoring and Control of Water Distribution Systems

Water distribution systems present a significant challenge for structural monitoring. They comprise a complex network of pipelines buried underground that are relatively inaccessible. Maintaining the integrity of these networks is vital for providing clean drinking water to the general public. There is a need for in-situ, on-line monitoring of water distribution systems in order to facilitate e...

Case study: a smart water grid in Singapore

As aging water distribution infrastructures encounter failures with increasing frequency, there is a real need for integrated, on-line decision-support systems based on continuous in-network monitoring of hydraulic and water quality parameters. Such systems will form the basis of a Smart Water Grid, allowing water utilities to improve optimization of system operation, manage leakage control mor...

Wavelet-based Burst Event Detection and Localization in Water Distribution Systems

In this paper we present techniques for detecting and locating transient pipe burst events in water distribution systems. The proposed method uses multiscale wavelet analysis of high rate pressure data recorded to detect transient events. Both wavelet coefficients and Lipschitz exponents provide additional information about the nature of the signal feature detected and can be used for feature c...
